My friends and family, I am proud to announce I have a Dalai Lama photo all copyrighted for myself. I can publish it, free of charge, to my own will, spread it, print it and blog it !

This was taken in a crowd of about 10 000 trying to approach His Holiness at the end of a 3 hour teaching at the PALASHARP in West Milan. Taken with a 28-105 mm iso 800. Tomorrow follows pictures of crowd, and other Milan delicacies ! My friends have show me the Navigli area of the city, little canals light by christmas decorations. This afternoon I'll be heading to Venise, let's see what waits for me and my new 400D there !

Hermann Kaufmann, a gagné, il y a quelques semaines, le prix d'architecture durable. Spécialiste de la construction en bois, Hermann Kaufmann, 52 ans, est issu d'une dynastie de charpentiers. Il a étudié à Innsbrück et à Vienne avant de revenir dans le Voralberg fonder son agence avec Christian Lenz. Son travail est principalement consacré à repousser les limites constructives du matériau. Spécialiste de l'habitat passif, il travaille désormais sur les bâtiments à énergie positive. Il enseigne depuis 2002 à l'université de Munich. Le lauréat réalisera, pour environ 400 000 euros et sous maîtrise d’ouvrage de l’Epamsa, une maison prototype ecologique, dans les Yvelines.

As an architecture student, you learn that a project has little importance in comparison with that of the presentation. So, at the end of my intership, with this big tree hunting my mind, seeing it in all of their projects, i decided to "steal" it.

The tree on your left, is probably the best big tree that you can have. First of all, it has a lot of detail, as to give you building a new texture, and second, a tree like this plus its shadow at the back, is a garanteed winner.

Here is an example :

Although this tree has un unspoken universality, the example above being for a project in the north east of Paris (immigrants and working class, now developing to be " trendy ", long way to go, 19ème!), the misty forest atmosphere is pretty surreal. You don't get that kind of thin poetic fog in the city. It's more like a Pollution, yellowish, thick fog. The facade above is part of a project that i contributed to (especially putting the trees) in the architecture agency in which i did my internship. The photoshopping is G-O-D-L-Y

Ah, les logos : ces petites images qui nous hantent de tous les cotés :
en forme de panneaux dans les villes, aux portes des boutiques,
accompagnées de musique lors des publicités à la télé (mm danone), ils sont partout!
Et avec quel génie, les grands logos de l'Etat Français ont-ils été conçu!

Prenons, par example, la SNCF. Aujourd'hui,
cette entreprise fait de la communication "cool", de "jeunz",
avec une panoplie de jeu de mots, de jeu d'image, et le logo aussi, evolue.
Et pourtant, quand on compare plusieurs logos datant de 1985 (à gauche)
et de 2005 (à droite), on note une simplification, bêtisation presque du logo:
nous prends-on pour des cons?

Royal Palace / Buren

Le Palais Royal: Commandé par le Cardinal Richelieu, en 1624, et construit par Jaques Lemercier (eglise de la Sorbonne), il est surtout connu pour été la demeure de "Monsieur", le frère de Louis XIV qui habitait le Louvre à l'époque. Dans ces temps sortides, "Monsieur Le frère du Roy" beneficiai de cette espace totallement inpenetré par la police, ou toute autre force de l'ordre. Ainsi, tout au cours du XVIIème siècle, le Palais Royal fut le squat des putains de Paris, des drogués du Marais, et ainsi de suite!

Daniel Buren, l'artiste obsedé des rayures de 8,7 cm de largeur, reçoit la commande "des deux plateaux" au Palais Royal. Auparavant, il avait repeté des tableau bicolore, noir et blanc, ou coloré, de rayures toutes de tailles identique, qui lui avait valu un espace reservé à ses oeuvres au Guggenheim de NYC.
Et que fait-il? des colonnes rayées, de toutes les tailles, certaines plus longues sous la surface, d'autres à hauteur de buteau, sur toutes la place du Palais Royal!

What does this fountain represent today?
Whil e taking t his photo, the light was hitting like the day Spencer Platt, of Getty Images took the world press phot award winning picture in Beyrout, in 2006. The sunglasses, the amazement, the superficiality of a culture focussed on their clothes and manners!

Clichés aside, the Trevi Fountain is incredible! Girls sit and throw a coin while their boys photograph them, in order so that faith "brings them back to Rome", a tradition, say the Romans, which finances the maintain of the Fountain.

hier, il a neigé. Beaucoup. Au point ou les voitures dans la station (1350m) etaient recouvertes de 20 cm de neige. Consequences? A une altitude elevée, ici le pic le plus haut, le pic blanc, etait fermé, pour "risques d'avalanches". Ainsi, ils en declenchent volontairement, pour diminuer les risques. Ca fait des montagnes fumantes avec une bande sons de guerre. Et ça surprend!

With christmas approaching and all, the architecture projects are all coming to an end, a lot of discoveries (last minute of course) of 3ds max, ArchiCAD, Autocad. The world is full of novelties. So let us breath, with this image; peaceful for the eyes, of a city who might die within a few years; drowned by global warming. Mouaha, evil; this postcard like city, do you wish it survives? Just like any patriotic glory of our conquests; or BAM! should we imagine a modern city, with wooden panels, light beams going through it with "finesse", glass passerelles. but no, Venice is rotten, beautiful in its ancient glory, rainy days go by, is it wrinkled? it's humid for sure.

Behind closed doors, or should we call them walls, are two separate worlds. When invited to come in, the first thing you will see, is a blue wall staring into your face, in front of you. He will then, carefully choose wether to take a right, opening the brown door to his workspace, atelier, or to take you to the left. If you are invited to come into the latter, you will cross a long space, a sort of pelgrinage towards the dining hall. Behing a small door on your left, a little kitchen, and to the right corner, another huge brown door; which will take you to his private room. Atlthough this walk, a terrace will be in front of you, and although there is a view on roofs, you will only be able to see the sky. A huge, invasive, bright sky. If you look up above your head, you will notice that the ceiling in an archway shape, that gently marries the straight walls.

You are at Le Corbusier's appartment in western Paris, at the limits of the outskirts, in front of a little stadium. From the atelier windows (most of them translucid, so not to get distracted, yet getting a lot of light) you will have this penetrating view:

Ca pourrait etre la Seine, en toute sa splendeur. Immaginez vous sur le pont des arts, a l'instant, la, le ciel est gris, vous avez froid; et la petite ile, ce vieux patrimoine qui nous rattache a notre passé parisien, ce petit vert galant, rennové sous henri quatre, qu'il soit d'un coup, BAHM! explosion, on refait tout a neuf. Batiments en verre, flamboyant, qui gere un peu notre probleme de densité parisienne ( je rappelle, 105km2 intramuros, bois compris, pour 2,15 Millions de parisiens. Si on enleve les voies ferrés et les bois, le territoire se restreint à 67km2 habitable. Ca nous fait une densité de 32 000 à 40 000 habitant au km2, en gros, waou!), on peut se permettre de tout refaire. Fourier, dans la premiere moitié du 19ème, aurait fait un phalanstère, ca ressemble à peu pres à un familistère (godin).

Moi je ferai des espaces verts, de belles etendues, avec des abris, des coins; des recoins. Surtout, je paverais tout, et je sortirais ces foutues bagnolles. Oui, j'ai un penchant vert en ce moment. J'ai vachement envie de pouvoir contempler les arbres se denuder sans devoir voir des paquets de ferailles dans tous les sens. Peut etre juste un tram, un element mega post-industrial period, mais pas ce que je vois.
Et vous, vous le reverais comment votre Paris? Quels quartiers a ne pas bombarder?

After Halloween, All saint's day, the day of the dead (nov 2nd), the hot wave which was upon europe stopped; and a bity cold came around. I now see why I bought a big jacket in Berlin, I'm not regretting it. Thank God there's the armistice coming around on the 18 (so I can accumulate French Bank Holidays).

About my little trip at the pere Lachaise, my analog crashed in the middle of the tombstones. It went "Clurk", and showed a dead battery. As soon as it was home again, it was all working as though nothing happen (i hate you). As romantic as it was, with all of paris visiting their ancestors, the low light on the stones in ruin, the narcissistic mausoleums, the free macons symbols, the old pavement, i wish i had grabbed a sunray...

Eisenman's Memorial, Berlin. Not a tombstone, maybe more of a tribute, a memory. There was, and there still is a lot of debate around this construction, a place where one feels odd. A cemetery of some sort, with blocks of the same base, but different hights and slightly tipped towards a direction. Eiseman made the ways accessible for disabled, but not for two people walking side by side. The sharp angles of the blocks attack your shoulders, and the discomfort within this walk is perceptible, you're constantly looking for an exit. So here is another illustration of the tomb.

I'm getting in the mood, getting ready for a good trip to the pere lachaise, geared with an analog, of course. I don't expect the digital world to understand any of these pagan traditions of celebrating the unknown (mouarf). Are you all carving pumpkins? We'll have a little tumbstone comparison between countries and religions.
First example, is the one above, the romantic 19th century tumbstone, in one of the most expensive and prestigious cemetery in Paris, back then the places were bought "a perpetuité" (forever). Nowardays, they are rentable for 50 or 99 years. I hope that Jim Morrison's little land is at least rented for 99 years. Since the bust was robbed and all, the hole is filled with cigarettes. It's quite funny, really. Send me your photos of the intresting tumb you have walked by, buddhist of muslims, hindu or protestant, it is an intresting tradition. (cf. there are no hindu tumbs, since they burn them). HAPPY HALLOWEEN....!

Je me suis promenée sur le pont des arts, et j'aurai bien voulu y recontrer siparhasard, j'ai regardé la FIAC, et pourtant j'ai repensé aux fleurs de thailande, de son arbre 'machine a fleurs'. Un peu comme l'exposition du grand repertoire au grand palais juillet dernier et ses inventions inutiles, machine a tartiner le nutella, machine a produire des odeurs, machine a croquer les pommes comme catherine deneuve. Bien sur, le leica M6 qu'on m'avait preté, que je tenais entre mes mains dans cet espace art nouveau, bien sur je ne su engrener la pellicule dans son méchanisme perfectioné, et le resultat fut nul.

Mais cet arbre est réel, réelement bizarre, il était habillé d'écharpes colorés et festives, ses branches quasiment mortes avec une pointe de vie, des pointes roses, et epaisses. Ca doit etre une particularité de pays au climat tropical.. ces fleurs de tous les sens. Des orchidées en guise de chrysanthème, qui poussent comme des champignons! Enfin, restez encore un moment, je vous raconterais tout le reste en image...

remember the cold days, in order to enjoy the overpopulated heat.
The very idea of public buses filled with people, who either have turned a very pale green with a few drops of cold sweat on their forehead, or are vividely welcoming the waters. Their cheeks a flushed pink, their neck damp, and their eyes lost, in the sea of smells...
time for self censure.

remember the cold days, when you had to wear gloves in order to get your camera out of your bag, when you don't know how to think, feeling your brain shrinking with the frozen breaze... alas, only waters grows in volume when frozen, all other material cells shrink. Usually eyes shrink; more than two thirds covered by the eye-lid, protecting the frost from a colourful pupil.

Don't remember the cold days, because back then, all you could think about was when will it be, the sleeveless tops, the low pants, the river banks with a bottle of beer and a bunch of friends. They have come; the nights starting at 11, the sunrays in your bed in the morning, they have come.

Les posts sur ce blog sont devenus si cul-cul, je n'en peux plus. Le printemps lalala.
Paris c'est que du CRS partout, de toutes facons, ou des giboulés. Donc je vous mets des gens qui marche sur du bitume, à Bastille. Des taches d'encre sur un sol cradé. I've been questioning digital lately, i feel like black and white again, especially since i have to take a couple of photos for an entrance exam. So here is an old photo, to get back in the rhythm. This blog will be more regularly updated from next week on, with guests (for political debates) and other photographers, till then, i'm out.
